The Sidamo or Sidama region covers large areas in southern Ethiopia. It is spread across the fertile regions in the south and extends to Lake Awasa in the Rift Valley. The region is characterized by twenty different administrative zones or districts, which vary in climate and altitude. Consequently, the quality and level of crops vary from one area to another. The most famous coffee-producing area is Yirgacheffe, which is located in a small part of Sidamo. Due to the large size of the Sidamo region, there is some confusion regarding coffee quality.
