The Sidamo or Sidma region covers a large area in southern Ethiopia. It is widespread in the fertile southern regions and extends to Lake Awassa in the Rift Valley. The region is characterized by twenty administrative districts or sub-districts, each with its own distinct climate and altitude. Consequently, the quality and standard of the coffee crops vary from one area to another. The most famous coffee-producing area is Yirgashif, located in a small district within Sidamo. Due to the vastness of the Sidamo region, there is some confusion regarding the quality of the coffee.
