In his early days of coffee cultivation, Delfin Lazo, owner of the El Devizo farm, planted 4,000 coffee trees on a small plot of land. Hoping to harvest his first crop and sell it for a good price, his dreams were shattered in an instant. While farm workers were attempting to clear fallen trees blocking the road, they accidentally set them on fire. The blaze quickly spread to the farm, extinguishing Delfin's hopes.
But a year after the incident, when he married his wife Estella, Delfin needed a source of income to ensure a better life. He turned his attention to the farm again. After selling his simple property consisting of a chicken coop and a sewing machine, in addition to a small amount of money he had saved, Delfin returned to taking care of the farm and managing it with his wife Estella after they lived in a small, dilapidated hut inside the farm. After harvesting his first crop and going to sell it, he heard words that were not understood by him at the time, but the buyers who tasted some samples told him that his coffee crop was distinguished by aromatic and caramel notes. However, Delfin did not have enough experience to interpret this information, but he insisted on learning more and more about coffee and participating in local coffee producers’ competitions.
Now, after 48 years that Delfin Lazo and his wife Estella spent producing and exporting coffee to various parts of the world, Delfin, his wife, his children and grandchildren work at the Aldvizo farm to produce one of the highest quality and most highly regarded crops in the world.
